Indiana Jones, the ride!

All packed up, loaded with supplies for the school and memory cards to capture the moments! We can't wait to meet the kids of Mikei.

But first we have to ride several hours on unpaved roads to get there. Can you say Indiana Jones ride!

Home made bowling set

Bowling anyone? We made a mini set with some plastic bottles and a tennis ball. Let's see what the Kenyan kids think about it. The good thing is that they can copy the design and make their own with found bottles there!

We also got creative and made percussion instruments with cans and stretched out balloons. They sounds pretty good.

Name tags for everyone

Thanks to UCSC's UCCSC conference committee for donating enough name tag pouches for our entire Kenya traveling crew!

We are all getting to know each other, and this will make it so much easier. And besides, they have plenty of room to carry our Kenyan shillings!

Thanks Lisa and crew!

100 Pounds of Legos

We are going to show the children of Mikei all the creative things you can do with these colorful connecting blocks! Thank you Rana joon and Shila joon for this wonderful contribution. We have nearly 100 pounds.

Let the building begin.

Wall of Wishes!

The children of our Kenyan school will love seeing the smiling faces of all the kind people who helped build their new school! Send me a photo of yourself, family, or kids with a wish for our Kenyan friends incorporated into the photograph. We'll print and take the photos to the new school and display them on a Wall of Wishes.

Here's a picture of Shawdi and I (and Jax).
You know how to get a hold of me. Send me your Kind Wishes photo!

Packing our Bags!

We are each taking one large suitcase filled with school supplies. So far my bag is filled with legos, wood blocks and some sock puppets! If you'd like to help stock the school, it's the perfect time to donate!

Almost time to go to Mikei

Hey it's Mojgan and Shawdi!
Welcome to our blog chronicling our trip to help build an elementary school in a very remote village in Kenya, Africa! We have 13 days left to get ready for this adventure of a lifetime. We're traveling with several other compassionate families, as part of an organization called Kids for Peace.
We will be rolling up our sleeves to work on special projects including painting, creating a playground, setting up classrooms, and community building activities with locals. We will do our best to get to know as many of the kids and families in the tiny village of Mikei.
Stay tuned for more details!
